Reflections from my last trip

January 18, 2016 By Guy Barash Leave a Comment

My last trip to Israel was truly inspiring. In addition to breathtaking sightseeing and the typically incredible foods, my schedule was packed with thought-provoking interactions:

Two improv shows with brilliant local artists Ayelet Lerman (viola), Adaya Godlevsky (harp), and Uri Levinson (video), one at Levontin 7 and the other at Hanut 31.

A guest composer lecture at the University of Haifa for the M.A. students in music composition where I discussed concepts of microtonality and multi-metric textures in my music.

Lastly, I enjoyed speaking with Ophir Ilzetzki from Halas Radio about experimental music in Israel on the first of a 50-show project at the Israeli Center for Digital Art. Listen to it here.

Halas is the Arabic word for done, or stop, end, enough. It’s one of those words that can be used in every situation. For example: Halas! I’m done talking about this.
